The daily routine for success

Every morning the alarm clock rings and you wake up with only one wish: to stay in bed for few more minutes. You are not really awake yet, still wrapped in your warm sheets and you end up falling asleep and waking up in hurry running everywhere to be on time.

Hal Elrod, a bestseller author, shows us the way to wake up early every day without any effort. In fact, our dream life is easy to reach, we just need to realize we are our own obstacle.

First, you need to learn how to wake up as fresh as possible.

To do that, you will put your phone away from your bed before going to sleep so that in the morning, you must get up to turn it off. The key is to NEVER press the snooze button. Also, prepare a glass of water, it’s very important to hydrate yourself when you wake up. Once in your bed, take few minutes to say some positive sentences about the great night and day you are going to have, say out loud the number of hours you are going to sleep and that THIS IS PLENTY, that you only need as much sleep as you tell yourself (most successful people are only sleeping 4 to 6 hours per night) and that tomorrow morning you will wake up energetically because this will help you to achieve your goals by developing discipline, the discipline you will need to be able to give the best of yourself and reach what you want in life. Anticipating the morning positively gives you THE opportunity to wake up easily and improve your quality of life.

So let’s recap the first steps you need to do in the morning: get up to turn off the alarm (which is far away from your bed), drink a glass of water, and then go the the bathroom and brush your teeth, you will feel fresher and cleaner which will help you to be completely awake and ready for the rest. Easy, right?

“If you really think about it, hitting the snooze button in the morning doesn’t even make sense. It’s like saying, ‘I hate getting up in the morning—so I do it over… and over… and over again.” ― Hal Elrod, The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life

Now let’s talk about the 5 life SAVERS, 5 habits which are going to help you achieve every single one of your goals, be more efficient, more concentrated and more dynamic.

The beginning of your day is one of the most important thing. The way you start it is going to play a decisive role in your life.

  • SILENCE – Empty your mind 10 minutes a day – 10 MIN

After the steps we saw above, find a peaceful place in your home. The first 10 minutes of your routine are for relaxation, meditation, silence. I encourage you to initiate yourself into meditation as it has lots of benefits on the body. You can download an app on your phone to help you begin for example, where you can listen to meditation songs and exercises (or if you are really interested in this subject you can read books about it, there are plenty)

This will help you to be as stress-free as possible, you will be in a better condition to take decisions and to see opportunities you might encounter during the day (which can sometimes change your life).

  • AFFIRMATIONS – Believe in yourself – 5 MIN

After your 10 minutes of meditation, stay in a quiet place to do your affirmations during 5 other minutes. You need to write on a paper as many sentences as you want about what you want to do or who you want to be. Positive affirmations have the power to change your life. For example at the beginning my sentences were “I will go to a business school, I will be accepted at X, I am a strong and independent woman, I have faith in me, I am beautiful, I am interesting, I am not afraid to speak in public (because in fact, I am), I am afraid of nothing etc. At first it could seem silly but speak freely, you are the only one in the room, say everything you want and be sure to believe it when you say it (don’t say right after “mhh it’s silly it will not work” because this is another affirmation and the negative ones always take over the positive ones.

Affirmations which are positive will boost your self-confidence day after day. Being more confident is the key because from the moment you believe in yourself nothing is impossible. You start taking more risk and risk allows you to make things happen rather than waiting for them to happen to you. It gives you the opportunity to learn new things about the world and yourself. It helps to overcome your fears.

  • VISUALIZATION – Imagine – 5 MIN

Take 5 other minutes to concentrate and imagine yourself having a great day. Visualize everything you want to do from the morning to the evening. Also, visualize what you want to do in general, imagine yourself achieving your dreams (even the craziest). For example, I was imagining myself reading more, passing all my exams, running more often, being accepted into my dream school: I was closing my eyes and seeing myself walking on the campus.

This allows you to decide clearly what you want and if you don’t really know what you want, it forces you to think about it, to decide whether you want something or not. It helps you to set your goals and to make decisions. This also helps with confidence because it has the same kind of impact the affirmations have.

  • EXERCISE – For a healthy body and a good dose of energy! – 30 MIN or more

It is time to wake up and to evacuate all the stress. It is up to you to decide how long you want to workout, I recommend at least 30 minutes (I run in my neighborhood). But you can start by 10 minutes if you are really not used to practicing sport it doesn’t matter. Choose your exercises but prefer aerobic exercises (low or medium intensity – long term) than short and intense exercises, that’s why running is, I think, the perfect exercise, but you decide 😉

Some people prefer going to the gym for 1h or more but only every other day. You have to try different things and see what works for you!

Having a healthy way of life thanks to a healthy habit like practicing sport usually have lots of benefits and not only for your body. It helps built confidence (which is, like I already said, one of the keys to success), it is also a moment during which you can think clearly, be more focused and empty your mind of irrelevant thoughts.

  • READING – Personal enrichment – 10 MIN or more

Reading is really essential because you can gain so many knowledge. Each time to have a question about something there is a book that can answer it, you can find books on everything! I wouldn’t be writing this article if I didn’t read one particular book. If you are interested in “personal enrichment” I can suggest you some of my favorite books:

  • The Man Who Wanted to Be Happy, Laurent Gounelle
  • The Day I Learned to Live, Laurent Gounelle (one of my favorite author)
  • The Miracle Morning, Hal Elrod
  • The 4 Toltec Agreement, Don Miguel Ruiz.

Gaining knowledge and being more educated will make you more interesting and more singular. Reading a lot means you like learning a lot which is an important quality people will see. It improves your vocabulary which becomes much richer and can also be a real boost for your imagination and creativity. You can find in books lots of answers and ideas that can help you in your professional and private life. “The more you know, the smarter you grow”

“Don’t wait to be great.”  If you want your life to improve, you have to improve yourself first.” ― Hal Elrod, The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life

  • SCRIBING – Write your goals in black and white – 10 MIN or more

You can:

  • Write articles or even a book, if it is something you always wanted to do or if it is part of your job, it is the good time to start and work on it every day.
  • Keep a journal about your evolution or personal life
  • Write a “To Do List” for each day or weeks about what you want to achieve
  • Start a Bullet Journal (this might be the subject of another article but you can watch many youtube’s videos about it, I started one in January it is really amazing)
  • Write down sayings which inspire you or that you like
  • Etc.

Just find something you want to write about, it can be anything but I recommend either the journal, I started one about this routine to write down my progress or the Bullet Journal. This is one good way to express yourself.

Studies showed that you only need 21 days to establish a new habit (if you do it every day), so make it 30: During 30 days don’t quit, it is not going to be easy but it is really worth it. And after that, it will just be a habit like another.

“Your entire life changes the day that you decide you will no longer accept mediocrity for yourself.” ― Hal Elrod, The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life
